Nas hesitates before answering. “Umm, yeah. I guess I’m in the developmental stages of a new story. Just sorta seeing if I can put it all together. It’s very early in the process.”
“Yeah? What’s it about?”
I pull my eyes away from the four Nathan Booker covers to find Nas staring down at his laptop. “I don't really like to talk about my books before they’re written. It’s just how I operate I guess. I don't wanna jinx it. No offense.”
“Oh, none taken,” I say with a raised hand. “I’m prying and totally overstepping my boundaries. I’m sorry. I didn't mean to intrude. I’m sure whatever it is will be great, and the whole world will be begging to read it once you're ready for us to see it.”
“Thanks,” Nas says, before clearing his throat. “That actually reminds me of something important we have to do.”
“Oh?”
“Yeah … this may be a little awkward, but it’s sort of a requirement at this point.”
“Awkward? After everything we did last night?”
Nas chuckles and takes me by the hand. “I need you to come with me into the dining room.”
I frown, taken aback by his sudden seriousness as he leads me through the house and into the dining room. It’s a gorgeous space with a black table in the center and a golden chandelier hanging from the vaulted ceiling. However, it’s the single sheet of paper next to a black pen on the table that grabs my attention. Nas walks straight over to it and pulls out a chair for me to sit next to him.
As I take my seat, I read over the paper that has my name addressed at the top left, and Nathan Booker addressed on the right, with a notarized signature block at the bottom. One glance at the subject line lets me know why he said it was about to get awkward.
“You want me to sign an NDA?” I ask, unable to hide the small fire in my voice that feels ready to become a blaze.
“Yes,” Nas answers coldly. “It’s nothing personal, and it has everything to do with me and what I write about. Now that my books have become what they have, Keisha insists that I have women I date sign a nondisclosure agreement to protect myself.”
“Protect yourself from what?” I snip. “You think I’m gonna run out the house and tell the world how kinky you are now that we’ve fucked? No offense, Nas, but I think they already know.”
