  48. About the Author

On the next morning Leeham was taken out the cell and pushered into a room with a large woman what had a beaky nose, uneven haircut and eyes reminiscent of a stray dog.

Sit she said.

Leeham sat.

Name she said.

Leeham, Leeham said.

Alive or dead alive she said.

Leeham again dint like to answer.

Woman looked at him for a short moment duration then marked down a mark – X – in the box next to DEAD in the papers on the desk, looking from the paper and then up to Leeham again directly, as if challenge him to see what she had done.

Then M. Seramic (name of woman as was previously mentioned) explained to Leeham that he was henceforth a ward of the court. And all kind of complicated rules concerning his conduct, possible future, prognosis etc.

*

That night Leeham was again spent back to the cells and unable to sleep he again lay on floor and read again the brittle inscription what he had already remarked on earlier only this time reading it aloud by whisper in moonlight:

Forgotten. Fog rotten. Forgotten. Fog rotten. Forgotten. Fog rotten. Forgotten. Fog rotten. Forgotten. Fog rotten. Forgotten. Fog rotten. Forgotten. Fog rotten. Fog rotten. Forgotten. Fog rotten. Forgotten. Fog rotten. Forgotten. Fog rotten. Forgotten. Fog rotten. Forgotten. Fog rotten. Forgotten. Fog rotten. Forgotten. Fog rotten. Fog rotten. Forgotten. Fog rotten.*

Etc

(*There is no need to put it all again.)

No sooner as Leeham had read it all through than that he felt a shiver and strange feeling of cold air and chill in his bones and appeared suddenly in the cell behind him was Great Uncle Dole Man.

Dole Man told him he had to get out of there. How could that be achieved, asked Leeham.

Pretend to have a kind of medical episode said Dole Man.

OK sed Leeham. Stay with me.

No, I will see u on the outside said Dole Man, I can’t stay here longer there is not enough energy to maintain the portal/connection (?) and Leeham didn’t know wtf he was talkin bout but anyway just got on w things.

Right away Leeham started to hyper ventilate, screaming and wailing and then made like he was going to collapse of a hard attack.

Guard in the corrodor (sic) heard commotion, looked in the little window thing and saw Leeham gibbering in the antic postures of a person wounded, possibly by my mortar fire.
