- About the Author
Looking down at her notebooks you could see the tiny writing of her hands covering page after page after page and moving all the time clearly to a solution so neat and so simple – the solution that any scientist etc now knows as Grief’s Solution – a fast scrawl of numbers and inspiration that bespoke the journey she had made whilst sitting at her window in strange and haunted trance. They say GOD or The Gods move in mysterious ways.
Of how Grief handed in her homework over 18 months late but still got a A+ from her teacher and how the rest of the world gave her an accolade and her peers in the sciences gave her a Nobel Prize and the Crack Co (Jacobs) gave her a pension on account of what happened to her mum little need to be said here cos it’s already the stuff of popular legend. Strange things happen in the history of the real world and although many times people despair of ever doing much in life or of finding their way the story of Grief, daughter of Wendy that fucked-up on QUICK QUIZ is a inspiration to us all.
Grief is the patron saint of students and mathematicians and a poster of her kind face and pretty hands hangs to this day on the wall in every student union refectory, coffee-shop and bar.
Void House
Void House
or
the sky still gets dark at night
Void House is the place where they shot the famous chase scenes for the end of BONE GRAFTERS II. If you look it up in Carmichael’s Film Compendium you’ll find it described as enjoying ‘. . . a large and ill-deserved cult reputation’. You’ll read that the film is loved mainly by ‘critics with the eye, ear or stomach for unsavoury scenes’. You’ll hear that it is ‘. . . a sub-standard sex film with a half-baked thriller sub-plot’. There are running times, some talk of genre patterns and the vaguest intimations of the scandals etc surrounding this movie on-screen and off, but no detail, no real facts, no effort to do justice at all.
