The smart, funny, brilliant women who got me through the last five years without even knowing. Sunny Singh. Bim Adewunmi. Bolu Babalola. Daniellé Dash. Charlotte Abotsi. Melissa Cox. Laura Dockrill. Bethany Rutter. Alice Slater. Keris Stainton. Thank you. I wish nothing but the best for you all.
My dear friends, Val, H and Alan, who literally held me together after my mother passed away, and Angela, Suzi, Catherine, Hannah, Tracy, Duncan, Ian and Lucy, who have made Brighton feel like home. Not to forget, Scoot, Kelly, Fiona and Jade who knew me Before and know me After and every version of me inbetween.
My sweet baby angel nephews, Jacob and Nathan, who honestly couldn’t care less how many books Aunty Tanya writes, as long as we go to the Aquarium and pick shells on the beach and wrestle to Kung Fu Fighting. (Them not me.) And my brother for bringing them to see me so that we can go to the Aquarium and pick shells on the beach and wrestle to Kung Fu Fighting. I love you all so very much.
My darling dog, Frida, who I had thought I was rescuing, but ended up saving me.
Finally, Claire Wilson, who has been so kind and so patient and would not give up on me when most agents would have cut me loose for not making them any money for five years. She knew that I would write again and, as always, she was right. (Frame this, Wilson. I’ll never say that again.) I don’t even know how to begin to thank her for that, but these few sentences will have to suffice until I find a way.
So. There you go. If you’ve read Ash’s story and you’re glad I told it, these are the people that made it possible. Without them, Ash would never have found her first – and last – love and I am forever grateful.
