I don’t care. I just want wild abandoned sex that doesn’t involve charts and temperatures and injections. I want unsafe sex with a hunky stranger. I want sex that has no purpose but fun, fun, fun. I want to get hot and sweaty. I want to scratch and bite and fight and when we’ve done that I want to be soft and gentle and sexy and when we’ve done that I want to do it all over again! ‘Well, you could stay outside the sleeping bag and I could stay inside…but it would be a lot less fun.’

We fall on each other, giggling again.

Dean smooths back my mad hair. ‘Are you sure you want to do this?’

‘Absolutely.’

We struggle and wriggle some more until we’re both naked and then the kissing begins in earnest. Dean has a fabulous body, strong and lean. The rain beats harder and harder on the canvas, Dean’s hands are all over me, caressing, exploring, and I let myself drown in the sensations. I am no longer a desperate, unhappy, unpregnant person—I am reckless, shagging Mountain Woman!

Chapter forty-three

I wish I could say that I had a massive hangover or some regrets. But I have neither. This morning the rain has gone, the birds are tweeting and I’m having breakfast outdoors in the foothills of the Himalayas. I have that warm feeling in my tummy that comes from really good porridge and great sex. Life really does not get any better.

I’m very happy there was a torrential downpour that lasted until dawn. Believe me, Dean and I took full advantage of it. I think it’s fair to say that the rakshi successfully removed the majority of my inhibitions. Then we fell asleep in each other’s arms and he crawled quietly away with more kissing just before Sanjeev—bless him—brought my early-morning tea. Every fibre of my body is zinging and I guess we both might have a few bruises, but it was a lot of fun. And somehow this feels like more than irresponsible, illicit sex—I can’t readily put it into words, but it feels like some sort of release, too. I can see now that I’ve been utterly focussed on one thing to the exclusion of all else and had forgotten the sheer joy that moist, writhing bodies can generate just for the sake of it.
