Next weekend is Valentine’s Day, followed by February break. But I’m spared the awkwardness of having to pretend I don’t know and “accidentally” ask Shane out for Valentine’s Day because he groans, “I can’t do next weekend, either, because we’re leaving for training camp over February break. Weekend after next, maybe? At the end of the break?”
“Perfect.”
“Sweet. It’ll be just you and me this time. No one else. Cool?”
“Cool.” SO COOL.
The bell rings, the crowds disperse, and Shane gives my hand a squeeze before loping off to join his friends. So what if Owen is hanging with Sabrina—and Em . . . and Brynn—without me? So what if my supposed best friend hasn’t even invited me? I’ve got a bona fide date with Shane Morgan in two weeks.
Aviana and Zach see me from across the quad and pump their fists, and I feel a twinge of guilt that this relationship stuff has elbowed STORM out of my head. I need to be better than this. I need to be stronger. I will be stronger. So, fine. While Emily and Owen are out socializing on Saturday night, I will stay home and work on STORM’s next step. I will be a behind-the-scenes leader of a movement and I won’t even feel a little bit jealous or pathetic.

I think our Society definitely owes victims of Racism, but no one owes Asians anything. Asian Americans are killing it. They’re richer than whites. They’re taking over Silicon Valley. I’ll probably lose my spot to an Asian kid at every College I apply to.
Forknife2005
YOUR spot?? I’m Asian, I work my ass off to get A’s in AP classes and I’ll probably lose MY spot to an affirmative action kid who didn’t work even half as hard as me. Colleges are totally racist against Asians.

Hey Forknife2005 privileged much??? Racist much??? Black and Latino kids (we all know that’s who you mean) deserve to get a good education just as much as you do. Just because they can’t afford private school and fancy enrichment activities doesn’t mean they don’t work hard.
SailorMoon2003
The only reason Asians are “killing it” as you say is because we work harder than your lazy white asses. We value education and we respect our elders. Maybe if the rest of you stopped whining and got your shit together you’d be killing it too.

Not all Asians are “killing it.” Some Asian groups are stuck in poverty even worse than Blacks and Latinos.
