I think it’s unlikely you’ll fail all your exams and have to drop out. Knowing you, you’ll end up with a neat column of HDs. Seriously, you worry more than anyone I know. But if you just don’t want to come to Bec’s 21st, that’s fine too. She won’t be offended. She probably won’t even notice—not because you’re not fabulous, but she’s ordered so much alcohol it’s not even funny.

But we’re going out next weekend, yeah? You’ll be finished exams and there’s this DJ I met at a party last week and he’s put me on the door for a club night he does. All fun disco stuff. You’ll love it. Promise.

Love you. L xxx

PS Did you know Seoul has the longest bridge fountain in the world and it pumps out 54 tonnes of water a minute? And you worry about wasting water … xx

Dear Caitlin,

Greetings from Fiji!

It’s so nice here! The weather is a bit crappy but the water is beautiful and we got the unlimited meal package so I’ve been eating non-stop. Mum’s loving it too. She just swims all day. We went snorkelling. There were turtles. You should have come. I know you had work but Mum would have loved to have you here. And me too, I suppose.

I’ll probably be home before you get this, but I’ll call you. Dinner soon.

Love, L xxx

PS Did you know Fiji has 28 airports? How, Caitlin? HOW?

Hey hey,

Plot twist: you know that guy we were talking to the other night at Freya’s—the tall one with the hair? I ran into him again. Literally. I was coming out of Fino’s with all the office coffees and he was on his phone and it was not pretty.

(Okay, I guess technically he ran into me. Whatever.)

Anyway, his name is Matt, and he works just down from me. He paid for all the coffees—as he should—and then offered to buy me lunch, and I know I said no guys for a month but oh my God he’s cute.

Come over Saturday. I have to make a cake for work—long story.

Love you, L xxx

PS Did you know ‘Ulladulla’ is an Aboriginal word meaning safe harbour? But really, why is Ulladulla on a postcard at all? So weird.

Some of them I knew by heart, even though I hadn’t looked at them in years. Others I could have sworn I’d never seen before.
