- About the Author
Some years passed. The Wildlife came and went, moving out over the landscape and back again at intervals and Mariam watched them. And she maintained the machinery orchestra of her neighbours. And she got old prematurely as was the fashion of Endland (sic) then because of the toxic leakage from Fukushima perhaps or the leakage from the other ones or most likely cos of the GMOs. The hard depth of Hard Brexit winter came and went. The orange fool entered into the White Big House of Americuh repeatedly and caused the untold heartbreak of idiocy and shame. The global economy rose up for those that had and sank for the rest, that had not. And the building she lived in never was occupied by anyone else, not even 1 other person not even until 1 day the bailiffs of the Gentrifaction came around to say that she had to move out for permanent non-payment of rent or something like that it didn’t make sense and her whole story – that this was a flat that a woman she met once in a game of cards told her it was OK to stay there for a while because a friend of the brother etc or something or some such or some such or whatsoever because because because etc, – was just like fake fucking news so far as the bailiffs were concerned, and they bundled her out of there and off for questions at the station and cells, and in her absence they tore down the doors to her place and all the other flats and shut down the subterfuge neighbour machines, flinging their wreckage from windows like such gleeful idiot fools as they were and then, when they had finished, the building was proper quiet again, silent again, very stillness again, much like it was before Mariam even moved in.
And some more years passed wherein which she lived mostly a life of incarcerated riley and workfare in a privatised prison – passing time by serving time because of the rental issues and what they called in the charges her ‘all round destruction of human property’ which was not destruction at all. And then Mariam died. ‘Some kind of human sadness’ is what the autopser wrote down in a big book then entered details in the computer control, to make a fit proper record of what happened is what they said. It was pretty much routine.
