- About the Author
Fokker only read the label on the bottle (of drugs) after he had taken it all which is not really the most sensible way to do it but it works for some people. HEROINE it said on the bottle (when he did bother to read it) and indeed it wasn’t long before one arrived – a skinny girl in a very short pastel skirt, a black and white top and a thin gold chain glinting round her tanned exposed midriff. Hi sed Fokker and she sed hi back proving at least that conversation was not yet dead in the country of Endland (sic). Her name, it transpired, was Miranda.
Lowered from the ceiling on his bed Lazarus entered the DJ booth in flamboyant style and started his second set. There was the sound of choppers in the air outside the club or tent or whatever and rumours that police (the pigs) were arresting the whole queue of people outside. Everyone inside didn’t seem to mind. LAZARUS put a record or two on – one by Abba and the other by Slade but he couldn’t seem to get people dancing. He put on more tunes – by Heater and by Nobody and by Rolfe Harris and so on so soon there was five (5) songs all playing at the same time. Fokker was more a singer/crooner than a back-from-the-dead DJ type but even he could see that Lazarus was good, if a little clumsy on the turntable and unorthodox in his methods.
When folks did get moving you couldn’t exactly tell if maybe it was for Coldstream Guards or The Belsen or Smokey but anyway when they did get moving it were like L could do no wrong etc playing the crowd like it were a music instrument of which he had the absolute master race blah blah. Fokker kept watching, his eyes ‘wide’. Just when it looked like ‘quite a good do’ tho Lazarus cut the mood and went into a long long slow rap about life before death and life after death and other crap, clearing the floor. Only Miranda in the whole club and the whole world danced to this Lazarus rap – snaking and turning slowly in the middle of the dance floor all alone while Fokker watched her from the rail and a crowd of blokes made a circle round her and wolf whistling, clapping their hands and nodding wisely at the good dancing.
