- ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Turns out being a parent is all I ever really wanted.
Same with Kristen.
ADAM
As I await trial in jail, I weigh all the things that brought me here. I think about what I could have done differently to avoid this mess. Would my life have been better if I hadn’t found Lee Husemann in that vacant lot? I was a hero in everyone’s eyes on that day. Just below the surface, like a bug bite that had yet to emerge from my skin, I knew that I was nothing but a guy who was in the right place at the right time.
Or was it the wrong place?
Here’s the funny part, though I know funny is the wrong word. I actually loved Sophie. I really did. She hurt me so bad with the affair that the wheels came off the bus. I can’t explain it. I gave her a second chance. I looked the other way. If only I hadn’t taken Aubrey to the doctor that day. I might never have known she wasn’t mine. Seeing her face. Seeing Sophie’s. I just couldn’t get it out of my mind. It consumed me. I acted out with Carrie LaCroix. I admit it. But that’s all. Kristen Warner was a liar. I had nothing to do with my wife’s murder.
I need everyone to believe me.
