Ugh, he was cute. Actually, cute didn’t do the man justice. Finn was one of the most gorgeous men I had ever seen; his smile alone could make me melt, even in this below-freezing weather.

“Oh yeah, he is,” I said as my cheeks flushed.

When I snuck a glance at Sarah and Logan, I found Logan already staring at me. Rage rushed through my veins at the sight of him, and turned my head to look out the window, and away from his prying eyes.

Taylor continued to brush my hair with her fingers, providing comfort like a big sister should. Even when we were states away, Taylor was always there for me. She would periodically give me updates on Sarah because she knew I was too stubborn to ask. I didn’t ever have to tell Taylor what I was thinking because she always just knew.

So only the two of us could hear, she whispered, “Have you spoken to her yet?”

My eyes stayed glued on the snow-covered mountains as I responded. “No. She tried yesterday, and I deflected. I’m just not ready to tackle that yet. I need some time.”

Taylor nodded as she split my hair into two sections and began braiding them, like I was a little doll.

“Well, maybe you can get some closure while you’re here. I’m not saying you have to become best friends with her, but it may be good for you.”

I didn’t respond, only turned enough so she could see my face but wouldn’t mess up the Dutch braid she was weaving. I smiled softly at her, and her honey-brown eyes flickered with a mix of sympathy and love.

The bus ride wasn’t long, but it gave Taylor enough time to give me two Dutch braids that settled down to my chest. Ever since I dyed my hair blonde, I had created a strict hair care regimen. I took vitamins like crazy, soaked my hair in rice water once a week—thank you, TikTok—and applied oils that cost me more than I was willing to admit. It was the complete opposite of when I was here last. My old just-past-shoulder-length brown hair was always a mess; it was unkempt and free. Much like I was.

The bus slowed to a stop once we got to the slopes. My heart beat faster, and I felt sick to my stomach. I hoped Finn knew what he was doing.

I had no idea what I was doing.

Olive stepped off that bus, looking like an angel bundled-up in her winter clothes. She had that pretty blonde hair pulled back into two braids, and her tan skin popped in contrast to the snow behind her. She gave me a quick wide-eyed look that said something along the lines of don’t screw this up.
