  48. About Author

But when I saw them together, I had been far more furious with Sarah than Logan. I could be in a room with Logan and pretend he never existed, but I would never forget the sister I once loved so dearly.

“I don’t know if I can. The last twenty-four hours have been too much.”

Taylor nodded and took a bite of her muffin. “I get it, maybe just take it into consideration before you go.”

When she left to go home, I gave her a brief hug and thanked her for being there for me. I sunk further into my mattress once she’d gone. My mind ran like a computer with twenty tabs open: replaying the memories I once had with Sarah, wondering about what Finn was doing, thinking of flying home early, trying to finish up work—it all gave me a headache.

I went to the kitchen for a glass of water, pausing in the hallway and turning to the gallery of pictures on the wall. My gaze snagged on the different pictures of Sarah and me. When we were toddlers, chasing Matt around the backyard. When we were in middle school with home-cut bangs and too much eyeliner. Her high school graduation, where I was squeezing the life out of her.

I dragged my eyes to my favorite one. It was Sarah in my arms on Christmas morning, hugging after I had given her a Ron Weasley poster. She was smiling and had her eyes closed, while I was laughing at her obsession over the red-headed wizard.

I sucked in a breath and dipped my head as tears filled my eyes. It was all too much. I hadn’t had enough time to process the last three years, much less the last two weeks. I still loved Sarah deeply, and that love wouldn’t go away no matter what she did to me. But I wasn’t sure if we could ever go back to normal, if I could look at her as my sister, my best friend instead of the girl who’d hurt me so badly.

I went back to bed without my water and pulled open my laptop. I searched for plane tickets and began packing.

She might be considered the prettier sister, but I was the best at running.

“What the hell are you doing here?”

I’d just finished my last class for the year, and I went to the lobby to grab lunch before packing up my locker for the next few days, when I saw a familiar face come into my view.

Logan.

Also known as the shithead I wanted to knock out. My hand flexed around my backpack strap. Realistically, he was smart for coming here because I couldn’t kill him on work property.
