Olive’s chuckle blessed my ears, a sound I wondered if I’d ever hear again. “I love you, Finn.” She placed a warm hand over mine. “I am so glad you’re here. I can’t believe how much I missed you already.” She shook her head, her smile brightening her round, wet cheeks. I instinctively wiped her tears with my sleeve.
“So, we’re doing this then?” She asked quietly.
I grinned. “You’ve always been mine in my mind.”
We sat there like love-sick idiots, and I leaned down to plant a kiss on her perfect lips. Lips that I would gladly spend the rest of my life mesmerized by.
I nodded my head to the plane exit. “Come on, let’s go before they—”
A familiar ding came from the speaker. “Please fasten your seat belts as we prepare for takeoff.”
Olive let out a small laugh and leaned closer. “Just more time we get to spend together. Time to fall more in love.”
I let out a deep breath and leaned into my seat. “I couldn’t love you more if I tried, you know,” I said.
She was everything. I took her hand in mine, and I leaned into our joint seats, not caring in the slightest bit that they were incredibly small. She was here, with me, and that’s all I cared about.

Thankfully, Finn and I easily scheduled a flight back to Aspen right when we landed in West Palm. He claimed it was due to his good luck, and I didn’t disagree. We happily spent almost nine hours on planes together, not paying any attention to our surroundings. We spent the time talking about anything and everything. We joked about what it would be like when we got back home, how excited Mom and Taylor would be. I cried when Finn and I opened up about our truths in our pasts. We talked about me being able to let loose on my eating habits and knowing that sometimes an extra slice of pie is alright. Finn made plans for us to work on it together, trying to find healthy and well-balanced diets that supported my weight loss journey in a way that wasn’t toxic. Finn held my hand as he spoke about his parents, telling me what it was like to be an only child and the vacations they went on together. I admired how he smiled through his stories, like he couldn’t hold in the excitement.
It was the best Christmas Eve morning ever.
And when we finally got back to Aspen, after Finn showered and changed clothes, we went straight to my house. It was early morning, barely nine. Between the two flights, we’d stayed up all night, and although we were exhausted, neither of us cared one bit.
