I leaned back into my seat and furrowed my brows. I was doing the right thing. Right?
38. Thirty-Eight
Taylor and I had been binging true crime documentaries and scarfing down pastries since I got home from the lodge. I hadn’t told her Finn and I broke up. I didn’t even say a word to her when I got here. I simply walked to my room, left the door cracked and sat on my bed in hopes that she would know that meant I needed her help.
Thankfully, Taylor was my true soulmate, and she followed me in. Without speaking, she simply put on my favorite show and handed me a cream cheese croissant. After we sat like that for an entire episode, until she turned to me. “Do you want to talk about it?”
I picked at the edges of my pastry. “No. Yes. Maybe?”
“Are you guys still together?”
Were we ever together? Probably not, at least not in his mind. I was simply another tourist and considering how often women fawned over him with their sultry voices and exposed cleavage, he would have no trouble finding a replacement. The thought of him quickly bouncing to the next girl made me shiver.
But then I thought back to our nights alone together. How he whispered sweet things to me and made me feel so beautiful in my own skin. How all my insecurities flew out the window when I was with him. Like he’d found an off switch to the part of my brain that told me I didn’t look good in white pants or that I ate too many sweets.
“Nope.”
“I’m sorry, Olive. I know you really liked him.” Her sincerity almost made me burst. I shrugged like it was a casual break-up. Another one bites the dust. There’s plenty of fish in the sea. No biggie. I’m fine.
“Maybe you should get everything off your chest before you leave. It’s going to hurt more the longer you hold it in.”
Her suggestion made sense. I desperately wanted to scream at them, but I probably should’ve at least heard Sarah out since Logan gave me his side.
But I was far more upset with Sarah than Logan.
Both had betrayed me. I knew that well, but it had been a deeper treachery from Sarah. She was my best friend, my sister, and I never thought she’d hurt me. Boyfriends came and went, and I certainly hadn’t thought I was going to marry Logan. I was upset with Logan, don’t get me wrong, but he had betrayed a girl he’d known for less than a year. You expected your boyfriend to hurt you, but never the girl who’d been by your side your entire life.
