  48. About Author
  1. Confess my love to Finn, even if I come across as psychotic.
  2. Head back to Florida and pretend this never happened.

I considered both, my mind wrestling with them all night until I fell into an exhausted slumber. But, when I woke up, my mind was clear. I needed to talk to Finn. He told me only a few days ago that I was his favorite person, and I hoped he still meant it. I screwed up by not telling him about Logan, but maybe I had time to recover from this. Maybe we could sort this out.

When I saw Finn’s tall, fit body making his way to where I sat, everything rushed into me all at once. He wore all black ski gear, and his hair looked slightly damp. When he reached me, I stood up.

“Hi,” I whispered as I searched his face.

“Hi.” He nodded to the seat behind me. We sat, and his eyebrows drew in. “So, what did you want to talk about?”

I could tell he was still upset with me. He wasn’t his usual excited, cheerful self, but he didn’t look furious like he had last night either. “I just wanted to say I’m sorry I didn’t tell you about Logan. I know I should have, but I was just so scared. Finn, I have had the best time with you, and the thing is I’m not scared anymore. I’ve been heartbroken before and I know—”

“Olive.” He stopped my rant, and I looked up to see his eyes were on me, but they were empty. “I think we should stop this.”

I paused. “What?” The question came out shaky and weak.

“I mean it had to end at some point, and you go back home in three days. It’s just easier, you know?”

No, I didn’t know. Because I was desperately in love with a boy who just told me he wanted to stop seeing me. His nonchalant attitude felt like a stone landing on my chest. As if this was nothing to him.

“Oh.” I tried my best to not sound disappointed. “Um, yeah. I totally get it.”

I forced the bitterness down my throat and blinked away any tears. “I got to go. I’ll see you around.”

He stood over me and reached into his backpack, pulling out a small box messily wrapped in red and white paper. “I got you this a while ago. I was waiting to give it to you for Christmas, but you know…”

I shakily grabbed the present and nodded. “Oh, thanks. I didn’t bring yours.”

He shook his head and waved a hand. “Nah, don’t worry about it.”

I stood next to him and fumbled with my keys. “Well, thank you for…everything. I guess I’ll just go.”

He took a step back and let me go. “Bye, Olive.”
