  48. About Author

My nails scratched through his hair, making it a little messy, and he stood up when he was done. “I’d let you keep going but you are a little too good at that. And I’m not trying to embarrass myself in front of your whole family.”

My family. In that brief moment the two of us shared, I had forgotten that my parents, siblings, and in-laws sat a few benches away. I blushed a little when I looked down and saw Sarah and Logan both staring at us. I tensed up, Finn oblivious as he laced on his own skates.

He tapped my leg with two fingers and held his hands out for me to grab for balance. We stepped onto the ice, and I held onto him tightly. I tensed and spread my arms and legs for balance, similar to when we went skiing.

Finn effortlessly glided beside me with a hand on my waist. “Just loosen up a little. I won’t let you fall.”

I clung to his words the same way I clung to his side. “That’s easier said than done.”

His warm laughter traced my ears as he pulled me closer. I turned around to see Matt and Taylor skating like they did this all the time. He gave her a small push on the back, and she turned around to smack him, both laughing at each other. Mom and Dad were sitting by themselves on a bench where they could watch us. And I didn’t look long enough to see what Sarah and Logan were doing. Because when I turned around to Finn, he was there, looking at me with those beautiful dark eyes underneath his long lashes that I was only a little jealous of. When his eyes connected with mine, it felt like the most erotic thing that I had ever experienced. It was hotter than when we were in my room and in the hot tub combined. With his gaze on mine, the rest of the skating rink disappeared. There was no past with Sarah, no distance from my old self; I was simply me. And I was the best version of me when I was with Finn.

He leaned closer, still smiling at me, and I knew he was about to kiss me in front of this entire rink, but I had no cares.

“Olive,” he whispered, “I think—”

Finn was cut off when he was shoved by a young boy in all red. The boy pulled down his mask and said, “Don’t hold up the ice.”

Finn raised his hands like he was the guilty one. “Sorry, kid.”

When the boy skated away from us, I couldn’t hold in my laughter. “Why is this town like Children of The Corn?” I wiped a tear streaming from my cheek as I laughed harder.

Finn joined me in our chuckling. “I am genuinely scared of them.”
