- ABOUT THE AUTHOR
- Afterword
“Yeah.” He doesn’t realize it, but that makes me feel bad. I never want them to think that I don’t want to visit. “Indigo keeps me busy,” I say.
He laughs, understanding washing over his features. “I remember when I was like that with Lorelai.” Dad smiles at the memory and Olivia cringes, probably having a flashback to the moment she caught us.
Can’t blame her. I’d most likely throw up if I found Mom and Dad making out. I shudder, taking my mind off it.
“We’ll visit more often,” I promise. I’ll have to see what Indigo thinks, but I’m pretty sure she’d love it. She’s a sucker for Mom’s cooking.
“Ready to go?” Mom asks from the kitchen door.
We decide to go in separate cars; Olivia, Indigo, and I in mine, and Mom and Dad in their ancient SUV.
“How’s married life?” Olivia pokes Indigo from the back seat as we set off.
Indigo sighs, “I—”
“Oh my God! You should name your child Lucas if it’s a boy and Avery if it’s a girl.” She claps excitedly.
I chuckle, “Too soon, kiddo.”
Olivia pouts. “Promise me that’s what you’ll name them.” She looks at me in the rearview mirror.
Indigo shakes her head. “What? No,” she laughs and Liv taps her head playfully.
“Why not? I named Mushroom, remember? It would only be fair to do the same with your kids.”
“Yeah, but that’s—”
“He genuinely looked like one.”
Indigo sighs and gives up. “You’ll forget by the time I have babies.”
Olivia growls, “Say yes.”
“No.”
“E?” Olivia turns to me, waiting for me to defend her.
“Oh no.” I shake my head. “I’m deaf when it comes to you two arguing.”
“Please?”
She’s giving us those puppy dog eyes in the mirror. They’re impossible to resist.
Indigo sighs. “Okay, yes.”
Olivia throws her arms around Indigo from behind, squeezing her.
I’m not ready for babies, but if it involves Indigo, it might not be that bad when the time comes.
CHAPTER THIRTY EIGHT
INDIGO
“I’m gonna take a shower,” I groan and get out of bed, stretching awkwardly. “My back hurts from all the games I won.”
“Dad let you,” Elias jokes, looking up at me. He’s stretched out on the bed, arms beneath his head. No shirt on.
Rolling my eyes, I pick my clothes out for the day. “We both know your dad is too proud to let anyone win.”
Elias chuckles. He knows that better than I do. Lorelai told me his dad has never, not even once, let Elias or Olivia win. He’d get bitter and grumpy if he wasn’t leading the game.
