He leans over and simply kisses me in reply.
CHAPTER THIRTY ONE
ELIAS
“Nothing. Fucking nothing,” Indigo says as she paces back and forth, the dogs running around after her.
I sigh, massaging my temples with the tips of my fingers. “I told you already—”
“No,” she cuts me off, raising her phone to her ears. After numerous shakes of her leg and impatient sighs, the person on the other end answers. She lays out the same speech she’s said to every other agency she’s called today, and by the look on her face, their response is the same.
It’s hard to buy a house on the same day you want to move. Before I visited my new house for the first time, I spoke with the agency a week in advance. Sure, there are a lot of houses for sale right now, but few of them are available immediately.
When Indigo ends the call, Enya grabs her by the shoulders, forcing her to listen. I watch from the couch.
“You’re always more than welcome at my house,” she says, but Indigo just shakes her head.
“Why are you so stubborn?” I ask.
She shrugs and throws herself on the sofa, groaning, surely exhausted from the one hundred calls she’s made today.
“You can either go to Enya’s or my place until you find something.”
“No, I can’t.”
Her answer frustrates me so much that I want to kiss it off her lips. “Why?” I fight back.
“Because Enya wouldn’t last a week with me. She has two kids and I have two dogs. Kai is allergic to dog hair.”
“We could make it work,” Enya pushes.
“Fair enough,” I agree with Indigo, “but why wouldn’t my place work?”
She laughs sarcastically, turning to face me. She opens and closes her mouth a couple of times. “Because…” she begins, but changes her mind.
Enya sits down next to us and pats Indigo’s leg, a sympathetic look on her face.
“You have Avocado,” Indigo says.
“He loves making friends.”
“I’m messy.”
“I’ll clean.”
“So messy.” She leans over, her brows furrowing.
“That’s it?” I ask, not impressed by her motives.
All this stress has quickly washed away the lightness that was between us this morning. I can see how tired she is. We’ve spent over eight hours packing and we’re still not done.
“We’ve barely even kissed,” she cracks a sarcastic laugh. “I can’t move in with you for obvious reasons.”
I groan. “Why are we talking about the kiss?” She shoots daggers with her eyes, but I ignore them. “Do you have another place to stay?”
“No.”
“Exactly. Stop being stubborn and accept my help.”
“Your help would speed things up between us. I don’t want to go any faster.”
