- ABOUT THE AUTHOR
- Afterword
I reach up and wipe away a tear from the corner of his eye. And that tells me everything I need to know: he would never run away.
He keeps his gaze on me, not trying to hide his true feelings. I love that about him. I love many things about him. Many parts of him. And I’m afraid of the day when I’ll love all of him.
CHAPTER THIRTY FIVE
ELIAS
“Who’s that?” I ask when I hear the knock at the door.
Indigo shrugs, still on the phone with Cora. Apparently, she found a house that might be the perfect fit. They’re setting up a viewing right now, and it makes me a little sad, knowing she’ll leave soon. Having her around, especially in my bed, has become a great routine this week.
I open the door, revealing a delivery man. Frowning, I try to remember what I’ve ordered, but there’s nothing I can think of.
“Good morning,” the guy says, looking through the papers in his hand. “Can you sign here?” He hands me a pen and points to a page.
I take the pen from him. “For what, exactly?”
“It’s a gift,” he smiles cheerfully. “Sign this and we’ll bring it over.”
We? How big is this gift?
I do as asked and watch six guys carry a two-meter-long box into the house. I get out of their way, utterly confused about what’s happening.
“Where do you want us to put it?” a guy with glasses asks as they enter.
“There?”
They put it down by the dining table.
“Thanks,” I say with a raise of my hand, and close the door behind them.
I look for Indigo, but she’s probably still on the phone somewhere, trying to find some peace and quiet. I can’t blame her. She must be so stressed about finding a new home.
What she told me yesterday is still playing on my mind. I’ve never been aggressive, but all I could think of was beating the shit out of her parents and everyone that disrespected her.
I shake my head to clear my thoughts and bend to open the package. Indigo comes in just as the box walls fall, revealing a big gray couch, exactly like the one at her grandma’s house.
“Eh?” She raises her arms in the air. “Much better, right?” Her smile is wide, and although I want to be mad at her for spending money on me, her joy is contagious.
I smile and nod. My current couch is so ugly and it’s as hard as a plank. I remember telling her how much I loved the couch she had at her old place, and how comfortable it was, but that wasn’t a hint for her to buy me one.
“But why?” I ask, embracing her and kissing the top of her head.
