- About the Author
Of her landing and first journey on the Earth © not much is recorded but it is written that she went directly to that morgue wherein the bodies of Meth Head and Artemis had been held by the Sheriff of the county pending autopsy and that she bade the workers there pray leave her alone for a moment with her sisters, searched their pockets and soon found what she sought after – a notebook belonging of Artmeis in which was written some various lines of enquiry she had dreamed to pursue, including the address of the Amuserment Parke in B_______, called Good Old Endland Amuserment Parke.
Stealing clothes from a morgue workers’ locker/‘contriving to dress herself in the fashions of the time’, Codswallop then mounted a real Horse and rode out in the harsh sunshine, through a landscape of naked horror made of bare rocks and scorched earth wherein the main sounds were silence and the hissing of vipers.
After three (3) days journey of heat and extreme discomfort like this (aftermath of Bophal) she saw at the v edge of her vision a little green line of scattered palm trees near the Premiere Inn Blackpool East, turned her horse in that direction so that just a few minutes riding brought her into a sweet meadow where a river ran at the feet of the palm trees, and where a tent of some kind was pitched and where 2 fresh mares were tethered, munching calmly on the moist grass.
That night she 1st attended a great feast with everything provided gratis by the nite manager of that nearby hotel, and she ate to her fill incl roast chicken golden brown and odorous, seasoned with fine spices, also Halwa perfumed with orange juice, sprinkled with cinnamon and powder of nuts, also almond cakes and pastries made with fruits, crushed raisins discretely sublimated with a juice that was made from using the petals of roses and a selection of drinks from the mini Bar.
And after the feasting ended Codswallop retired to her quarters dutifully completing a review on TripAdvisors then 1st ordering a steed be made ready for early departure next morning that she could beat the traffic on the Preston New Road and get safely to B________ before lunch.
In her sleep Codswallop dreamed deeply of her daughter, a series of scenes as unforgettable as they wer banal, as unremarkable as they wer truly precious.
- Valiant sitting on a wall in Mount Olympus one Spring day.
- Valiant watching carefully the movements of a small bird taking bread crumbs from her hand.
- Valiant sleeping in the back of a car one holiday in France, her face pressed to the side of the car seat, the landscape passing, blurred oblivious.
Only a final dream gave some kind of warning to Codswallop. In it she was walking twds a strange town, surrounded by people who somehow had the power to change themselves into anything they liked. But because for some reason the people did not want her to reach the strange town, they turned themselves into a fire, and burned down their own houses, destroying their only possessions.
