He continued when I didn’t respond. “Do you want to know what I’m thinking about tonight?” His voice was husky and somewhat hoarse, and it resonated deep in my chest. It was like I was lying next to him in that bed, and I could feel the rumble of his words from here.

“What’s that?” I whispered, scared to even ask. What did Finn Beckett lie awake thinking of?

He whispered back to me, so quiet I barely heard. “I’m thinking about how good those peanuts were on the plane. Or was it peanus? I can’t remember.”

I laughed loud enough to wake the house, and probably harder than I had in a long time. I wiped a tear from my cheek and said, “I have to say that was not what I expected.” I sucked in a breath to calm my racing heart.

“Olive Moore…” He dragged out my name, those three syllables mellifluous in my head. “Are you thinking about having phone sex with me right now?”

I gasped audibly and my heart raced faster. “No!” I shouted louder than necessary. “I just thought you were going to say something different.”

His deep chuckle was warm. “I mean if that’s what you’re trying to do I can help. I’m pretty good at it. You wanna know what I would do if I were there, I wou—”

“Finn!” I yelled, embarrassed. I longed to hear what he would do to me with those big hands of his, but if he did, I would never be able to look him in the eye again.

“I’m just messing with you, Grinchy. Unless you wanted me to?”

His voice was playful and flirty, making me blush all over. A shuffle came through the phone, and I imagined him shifting in bed. Part of me wished we were together right now, which was ridiculous because I just saw him. I looked at the time again, feeling a little guilty for keeping him up.

“Don’t you have to work early tomorrow?” I briefly remembered him mentioning his early schedule at the resort.

“A little, but I can run on a few hours of sleep.” For some reason, that didn’t surprise me. A picture of Finn up bright and early running around like a golden retriever crossed my mind, and I grinned to myself.

“Are you sur—”

“Just keep talking to me.” His breath hitched. “Tell me something no one else knows.”
