Which is what had me sweating in the twenty degree weather. My crotch was in a constant fight with my zipper, and my mental strength would be tested all night. Olive was perched in my passenger seat, seeming as nervous as I was. She tapped her feet together, and we were both quiet most of the drive, the only sounds that of the Christmas music from the stereo and the vents blasting warm air. I usually filled the silence, as I always had something to say, but I was scared whatever came out of my mouth would end in me telling her how hot she looked.

“Can I—“

“Are you—“

We both let out a small laugh, and I tipped my head to her. “You go first.”

“I was going to ask if you were going to give me any hints about where we’re going.”

I smiled. “Not a chance, babe. But we’ll be there soon.”

She looked out the window, and her curly blonde hair swished my way, filling my nose with her sweet scent. I inhaled sharply.

“I was thinking…” Olive turned to me and although she wasn’t smiling, she wasn’t exactly scowling at me either. “Taylor said you loved all things Christmas earlier.” Now may have not been the best time to bring up the topic, but I only have so much time with this girl.

She let out a sarcastic chuckle. “I guess I used to, yeah.”

I took a quick glance at her. “And now you don’t?”

Without meeting my eyes, she glanced in my general direction. “I got in a fight with my sister a few years ago on Christmas Eve, and now it’s just like every year it brings it all back.”

Ahh. Another piece to the gorgeous puzzle sitting a foot away from me. After she let it slip, Olive began nervously talking about random things like, “Oh, have you eaten there yet?” or “I think it’s supposed to snow a lot tomorrow.” I understood her attempt to change the subject and decided to leave her alone, but I knew in the back of my mind I had found a sore spot in Olive.

We both went back to our quiet state when she finished babbling. Every now and then I would glance in her direction to find her already looking at me, then we quickly turned away from each other.
