Her voice seemed amused when she replied. “It’s okay, I was just letting you know I didn’t answer ‘cause I was at the gym.”
Oh. “You were at the gym for three hours?”
I heard a car door close and an engine starting. “Yeah, I had to work off some of the food I had last night. Plus, it’s leg day.”
Food from last night? She barely ate. Unless she had an entire pie, I didn’t see what she was talking about. Olive’s body was perfect—fit but feminine. She was toned without compromising her sweet curves. Honestly, she was every man’s dream girl, so I wasn’t sure why she felt the need to work out for three hours straight. Then again, I was blessed in that department. I had a metabolism that allowed me to eat whatever I wanted and not gain a point, plus, a job that involved regular physical activity.
“Damn, that’s commitment. Do you go every day?”
I heard her swallowing a drink in the background, and she huffed out a breath. “Not every day. But I’m consistent enough where I won’t ever slip back into my old body.”
That comment intrigued me. Last night, I noticed several pictures of Olive when she was younger, and she looked completely different. There was a high school senior portrait in the hallway that caught my eye on the way to the restroom. Olive was wearing a flared red dress, and her short, dark hair was perfectly combed. She was more filled out back then. The combination of her curvy figure and bright smile was, to me, as attractive as her body now. Which proved to me that she was my type—whether curvy or toned, I wanted this girl through and through. I couldn’t help but wonder what made her lose weight in the first place. If some frat boy douche bag fostered that insecurity, I would make it my mission to track him down and shove a stem of broccoli down his throat.
“I think you looked cute back then,” I confess, I wanted her to know I think she’s as attractive now as she was before.
She sucked in a breath, and I swore I heard her mumble, “You’d be the first,” but I couldn’t be sure.
Before I could interject, she continued. “Is tonight just me and you, or is my family supposed to come?”
Honestly, I was excited it was only me and her. Then again, she did say no flirting or touching when we’re alone. But maybe it could be for practice’s sake? In order to learn more about her so we look more comfortable in front of her family. That was the best excuse my brain could come up with. It was safer than the truth, which was that I wanted her around me all the time.
