Years?? This girl…Years? Yeah right, she’s probably had a hundred men message her since she landed. “Come on, it'll be fun. Like we have a secret that no one else knows. I'll talk you up the whole time and they'll love me.” I was known as the guy that parents love, but unfortunately for them, I didn’t stick around long. Usually, their daughter said she wanted something casual, but the second her family met me, she started picking out wedding flowers. Therefore, I was the perfect fun guy. The guy you have one good night with, then never see again. Or the one you pass at a grocery store and think hey, he looks familiar.

A group of people walking in the busy restaurant came close to us and Olive looked between the restaurant and an alley next to it. She put her tiny hand on my broad chest as she moved me back toward the alley. She pushed me against the brick wall and spoke quietly as if the alley was filled with reporters waiting to find us. “No one would ever believe us, Finn. You don't understand. This is more complicated than you know.”

I wasn’t sure what she thought was so complicated about us acting like we're going out for a couple of weeks, but she had no idea how good I was at acting.

“We’ll be totally believable! I was a tree in my high school play, and I nailed it. I've got this.”

She groaned and ran her fingers through her curled hair. “Ugh. Here's what we're gonna do. You will sit for five minutes, you'll eat a couple bites of food, and then say your house is flooding. You'll excuse yourself and then in a few days I'll say we broke up.” It was cute that she thought she was in charge. She stood firm but she was no match for me. I was Obi-Wan, and she was Anakin; I had the high ground on this one.

“Alright, blondie. Let’s go.”

She eyed me up and down, curious. “Why did you agree so easily?”

Shrugging my shoulders, I walked away in hopes she would follow. Her steep heels clicked against the frozen concrete behind me, and I slowed my stride so she could catch up. We made our way back to the table with all eyes on us. Olive’s mother spoke first.

“Olive, are you going to introduce us?”

She cleared her throat and straightened her dress. “Yes, um. This is Finn. Finn, this is my mom, dad, Matt, and his wife Taylor.” There was a pause for a second. “And that’s Sarah and her husband, Logan.” Her sister looked between me and Olive like something was off.
