“I’m telling you to not make the same mistake as me. I know you broke up with her, and I’m letting you know, don’t let what you guys have go just because of a guy in her past. Yeah, she didn’t tell you, but can you blame her?”
The thing was, I couldn’t. I was the type to always say what was on my mind, but if two people I was close with betrayed me like that, I probably wouldn’t have said anything either. I’d be too hurt and embarrassed as well.
“So why are you here?” I needed this conversation to be over. Hearing Olive’s name, and thinking about her, made me miss her more.
“I’m here to say don’t let a girl like Olive go just ‘cause she didn’t tell you what some idiot did to her three years ago.”
I shrugged like this conversation was nothing. Like my heart didn’t feel torn at the thought of Olive holding back from me. I thought we were something more, something real. Our time together had been brief, but there were enough moments for her to tell me—and part of me was so hung up on that.
I was vulnerable with her, sharing parts of me that I hadn’t exposed to anyone in years. I was foolish to think she would have done the same for me. Olive was the type of woman to have a line of drooling men in front of her, and I had no doubts she’d do fine in a week when she was back to her usual schedule.
“Well, thanks for the advice and conversation, but I think I’m good. Olive will be back in Florida in a few days, and when she gets there she’ll do just fine.”
I grabbed my bag to stand up, but he shook his head and reached up to stop me. “You know Olive is leaving today, right?”
I stopped in my tracks. “What?”
Logan looked at me confused. “Olive bought a ticket to leave early. I figured she told you already?”
She was leaving? I knew she was going soon. I was prepared for that. But I thought I had a few days. I thought I had time before she left. The fact that Logan knew this before I did was even more upsetting.
“When does she leave?”
He checked the time on his phone that had a Colorado Avalanche case on it, which made me even more mad that I wanted to appreciate his merch. If things were different, Logan and I could be good friends. Instead, he was the idiot that cheated on the most incredible person I’d ever met. Then again, I was the idiot that let her go. Maybe we were meant to be friends after all. Two dumb guys with similar taste in women and commonly known to make relationship mistakes.
