When was the last time I felt this bliss? When did my cheeks last hurt from smiling so much? Or when pure euphoria enveloped me? When I was with Finn, the hours lasted minutes, ticking by like time was nothing. I was conflicted, because I loved my moments with Finn so much that I dreaded when they were over. As much as I wanted to say on cloud nine, tomorrow hung over my head like a guillotine. Despite that, I wanted to enjoy tonight, to stay here in this moment with Finn.

With my gaze, I traced a path from his eyes to his lips and back. “You might just be my favorite person in the world.”

It was an almost embarrassing confession, the fact that my truest friend was a man I had met only a week ago. But it was honest, and judging by the huge grin that broke out on his face afterward, he appreciated it.

“You’ve been mine since I found out how terrible you are at skiing.” He smirked, and before I had time to take offense to his joking insult, he yanked me from my chair and settled me on his lap. I giggled and leaned into him. He tucked a lock of hair behind my ear, and heat and warm fuzzies settled in my stomach—and on my lady parts, too.

“This is crazy, right?” I asked with an incredulous laugh. I didn’t know my heart could feel like this, that it could palpitate at the mere sight of Finn’s smile. It was ridiculous, the idea of me falling for a guy I hardly knew. I knew my parents fell in love fast, so I couldn’t say it was inconceivable, but it seemed impossible. This was never supposed to be in my cards. After my ex, I planned to avoid love at all costs. But sitting on Finn’s lap, his lips so close to mine, I knew we had to be at least a little crazy for this.

Finn’s eyes never left mine as he said, “No. I think this is the most sane I’ve ever felt.”

And with that, his lips were on mine in a slow slide. He kissed me like we had all the time in the world, like we didn’t have an expiration date. He gripped my body in his large hands and held me close. I brought a hand up to the short hairs at the base of his skull and scratched my fingers over his scalp. He groaned into my mouth and shifted his hips below me. With a hand on my behind and another on my upper back, he pulled away from my lips, and I almost whined at the missing contact.

“Olive. You have no idea how bad I want to—“

BANG.
