  48. About Author

He took me to see The Nutcracker ballet in theaters. He made comments every time the male dancer would do a high jump or an impressive spin with the ballerina in his arms.

“I could do that.”

“Pshh, that’s easy.”

“Why is everyone freaking out over this guy jumping?”

Afterward he proceeded to take me into the parking lot and do high jumps under the street light lamps. He would kick his leg out in poor form and tell me to rate it on a scale of one to five. By the end of the night, he had convinced me to get a running start and leap into his strong arms while he lifted me in the air. We looked like a couple of drunk idiots, but neither of us had a care in the world.

Day Six

Finn invited me back to the resort when his shift was over, and we went to an open area away from all the tourists. He took his backpack off his shoulders and unzipped it to pull out two carrots, a few black rocks he stole from the lodge landscaping, and a tiny red bow tie. I squinted my eyes at him, and he said we were going to be making a snowman. I hadn’t made a snowman since I was a kid, and I would be lying if it didn’t spark happiness in my chest. We rolled up each section of the body and stacked them on top of each other. He handed me the rocks for buttons and eyes. I reached a hand down to grab a carrot, and when he held two out, I questioned him. His mischievous grin was shining bright at me, and he explained. “One for the nose, and one so he can be a man and come to life.” I laughed loudly and told him I would take the nose, and he could take the phallic-shaped carrot since he was so adamant. He shamelessly placed it below our snowman's buttons, and we both took a step back to take in our creation. He was tall and lumpy with crooked buttons and a very pointed reproductive organ, but he was ours. We smiled and decided to leave him to scare people away from what we now called our spot.
