“Don’t downplay it. I can’t imagine what you're going through and I am beyond grateful.” She pulled me in for a hug, and I cringed.

“Kelsey, with all due respect, I appreciate your gratitude, but you stink. When was the last time you took a shower?” I wrinkled my nose when she released me and her cheeks turned pink.

“Uh….”

“I’m teasing. Go shower and relax.” I ushered her to stand up, and she needed no coaxing.

“If she cries…”

“I got it. Go!” I interrupted her.

She hurried out of the room and not even a minute later; the shower turned on.

“Thank you,” Callum said, looking relieved. “She had been crying for a while and I think both of us panicked when she wouldn’t stop.”

“I’m sure hearing her cry for so long is stressful, and I’m glad I could help. Let’s hope this isn’t just some fluke and we can work out what she needs a little better.” I smiled, scooting over to him and running my hands down his back. “Though I have to say, I am pleased to see you trying to help her as much as possible. You’re such a great brother, and I pity the boy who tries to take Rose to prom.” I laughed.

“I’ll make sure Aiden and Nathan are with me,” he laughed with me.

“Don’t do that to her. No one will want to date her.” I leaned against him, loving this side of him. Protective Callum was hot.

“She won’t be able to date till she is at least thirty.” He grinned and then became serious. “Thank you.” He pulled me in for a kiss and if we weren’t at his sister’s house, I would have crawled on his lap to enjoy his kiss.

“I know this is also hard for you.” He pulled away, looking worried again.

“It’s ok, I will eventually have to learn how to be ok around babies.” I choked up because as much as I would have liked to say I’m ok, I wasn’t. I just couldn’t let Kelsey suffer, especially if I could help, so my grief would have to take a back seat for a minute.

“Well, if you need a break or want to go home, we will understand.” Callum pulled me in for a hug. His larger frame engulfed me, and it was beyond comforting.
