He looked like he was telling the truth, but I was still wary at this point, but I needed all the help I could get. “Fine, but like I told Evan, I’ll make you disappear if you fuck me over and don’t fuck with Kelsey either.”

He nodded. “I’m not here to make your life harder, and I definitely don’t want to see Jane and Kelsey get mixed up with your shit. If there is something we all can do to keep them safe, then I’m more than happy to help. I do the same with Evan, and he helps me out, too.”

I was still wary of Dev. The thought of having people watch out for the people I loved, sounded like a simple decision. I just wish the one person I loved was here with me and not somewhere far away.

“Ok, thanks for your help.” I nodded, getting ready for a fight that I hoped would be easy and I didn’t have to get my ass handed to me again.

TWENTY-THREE

Jane

2 weeks after I found out my dead fucking husband is a piece of shit – Send wine, ok maybe just water.

I had been out of it for two weeks, and I think my liver was dying. Honestly, I was probably just really fucking dehydrated, and I needed to eat something other than fries. I rolled out of bed, losing my balance, falling onto my knees. I leaned against the nightstand, trying to get my shit together.

“Fuck.” Nausea rolled through me. I got up trying to walk to the bathroom, and I felt like a baby deer with my shaky ass legs. I took a cold-as-fuck shower to get my ass moving, not giving me a chance to think about my fucked-up situation.

I finished getting ready at a leisurely pace, making a list of all the shit I needed to do. The first thing on my list was to get a phone. I grabbed my purse, headed to the nearest store, and picked up the latest model. The salesman was even nice enough to set it up for me. I got some actual food down the street, but my phone was buzzing too much for me to ignore it. Tapping the message icon and Nathan’s text caught my eye. I clicked on it.

I’m sorry. I wish we could repeat that day all over again, so we could sit you down and explain everything to you. It’s all been a big misunderstanding. We miss you and I know it might be easier to run away, but please just let us catch up to you. Remember, we will chase you beyond the horizon every day.
