“Uh… Sorry, I offered to pick up lunch, and I told her they were packages for the wedding. Waiting to see if she’s gonna respond.” Cal looked out the window while he bounced his leg up and down, in a nervous gesture.

We were almost in Mountain View when our phones buzzed again. Thankfully, it was at a red light and I glanced at my phone.

I won’t be home. You can leave them on the porch. Thanks.

This woman was going to make us beg and even though I wanted to be annoyed, I wanted to try harder.

“I think we need to stop somewhere and buy her something we can leave with the packages.” I said, as the light turned green.

“She loves Mary’s pastries. We can leave those in the smaller box and maybe some coffee?” Cal continued to look out the window, and I couldn’t help but smile. Kelsey was right, we were so used to women falling at our feet with little to no effort that I knew we were out of our element.

Another text came through at another red light. She’s making us work for it. Go get her a present and leave it with her. I’ll make enough for dinner so I can take her lunch tomorrow when she’s at work. Nate texted.

I chuckled. Seems like we were back to reading each other’s minds. Done. I texted.

“Alright, let’s go do all of this and then I want to check on Kelsey. She was complaining of back pain,” Cal said, looking at me.

“We can build that changing table for her and see if she needs anything else done,” I said, changing directions to the coffee shop. “She’s getting close to her due date, right?”

“Yeah, she’s due in about three weeks. Makes me nervous because I know she’s going to need help, but what do I know?” He sounded worried.

“We can help, but it’s not like we know shit about babies either. You know Nate’s been reading baby books, right?” I smiled.

“Yeah, he gave me two to read and I’m almost done with the first one, but reading about it is going to differ from actually doing it.” He ran his hands through his hair.

“I’ll see if I can read something, too. Between the three of us, we are bound to be able to help.” I pulled up to Mary’s.

“Thanks. Now let’s go get some stuff for Jane. I hate all this space between us all.”

“Me too man,” I said getting out of the truck and just our luck Jane was walking into the Coffee shop with some tight ass shorts.

“Girl!” Darcy squealed as I walked in. I glanced around, hoping no one was in the coffee shop. Thankfully, we were alone.

“Hey,” I said, walking up to her.
