I hung up the phone. I didn’t need anyone’s shit and judgment. Fuck, if he knew I was here, it was only a matter of time before he came over. Dragging myself out of the bed, grabbing my stuff, I made sure I left nothing behind. I dialed my friend on the hotel phone and made sure I got a room in someone else’s name. I just wasn’t ready to deal with this situation, and people could go fuck themselves. Right before leaving, the phone rang. I looked back at it, deciding if I wanted to answer it or not. It could be JD or my friend. If my friend needed me, she knew what room I was going to be in. She could call me there.

“I can’t believe you guys fucked it up again.” Kelsey was sitting on her rocking chair, giving Rose a bottle. It was amazing how just a few weeks had passed and Rose was already looking so different.

“We didn’t do anything,” I groaned. Kelsey had been rubbing my face in the situation every chance she got.

“Yes, you did, and until you realize your mistake, there is no point in going back to her.” She gave me a dirty look. “Cal, I’ve told you again and again, Jane needs to be treated like the queen she is. If you can’t give her that, then move on.”

“Look, she came in at the wrong time in a conversation, and she heard things out of context.” I scowled at her.

“So, you saying that things weren’t going to go very far with you guys is just out of context?” She raised her eyebrow at me like she was challenging me to say something different.

“Ok, not that part, but…”

“I’m going to make this easy for you Cal, you just told her you thought she was just going to be a placeholder.” Kelsey picked up Rose to burp her, but I took her instead, bringing her to my shoulder to pat her back. “I can guarantee you she feels like this entire relationship was a mistake and that you guys never cared.”

“But that’s not the case.” Rose burped loudly and farted as well. I chuckled at the smile she had on her face. Fuck, I wish things weren’t so complicated.

“You know that, but she doesn’t, Cal. If you haven’t seen her around, I would say she is either with Darcy, or she has gone back home.” I gave her Rose back to her, so she could finish feeding her. “She’s left because she might feel like there isn’t anything here for her.”
