Cal and Aiden were arguing back and forth, Jane’s eyes were glued to the phone, occasionally looking at me. I saw the longing in her gaze. After being alone for two weeks, I’m sure I would be the same. She looked confused, heartbroken, and something in her gaze told me she was barely hanging on by a thread.

“Jane, please. I love you.” I stepped closer to her.

They got quiet over the phone.

“I love you, babe.” Cal said.

“I love you, baby. We all love you and we just need to get this sorted out together. Just give us time to get there,” Aiden said, in that calm, authoritative voice.

Jane was quiet, looking like she was processing everything. “You don’t love me. You think you do, but you don’t. It is not possible to fix me, to be what you want me to be. I don’t think you can fix me. I’m not even sure if I wanna be fixed.” She grabbed her purse while Aiden and Cal started talking at the same time.

“Jane, please, that’s not what’s happening. I don’t think you need to be fixed.” I followed her.

“Jane, please just give us a chance to get there,” Cal begged, and it sounded like he was moving.

“Guys, it’s over. No need to drag it out. Just go home, Nathan,” she said, dismissively, like she was sending a naughty child to their room.

“Are you saying you don’t love us?” That stopped her in her tracks. “Tell us that’s the case and don’t fucking lie about it, Jane.”

She stood still, turned away from me. Her shoulders shook like she was still crying. She slowly turned and looked up at me.

“I don’t love you guys.” Her voice was firm and didn’t waver. “How can I love you when I don’t even love myself? Go home, Nathan.”

My chest felt heavy with her admission.

“Jane.” I didn’t know what else to say. What was the point if she didn’t love us?

Her lip quivered. “I’m sorry, but I can’t do this.” She walked away from me, and I just stood there. The door slammed shut. I flinched as I realized the guys were talking to me.

“Nathan, don’t let her out of your sight,” Aiden growled.

“We are on our way to the airport,” Cal said, as a car doors shut.

I snapped out of it and walked out of the room, trying to rush to the elevator but slowed down before I got there.

“It’s too late guys.” I took off the speakerphone and brought the phone up to my ear.

“Dammit, Nathan, just go find her and talk to her.” Cal snarled.
