“I saw your text messages, and it sounded like you were trying to talk me off of a ledge.” She started pacing. “I know what it feels like and sounds like being talked to like that. Like I could off myself at any moment. That fact that you don’t trust me speaks volumes.”
“I do not. I… I,” I stuttered at the end, thinking about how I had treated her.
“You need to just leave, Nathan,” she said, turning to face away from me, covering her face with her hands.
“This is not fair.” I pulled out my phone to call the guys hoping we could talk some sense into her. I put it on speaker as the phone rang.
“Nathan, don’t you dare.” She glared at me.
“You ok?” Cal answered the phone.
“I found her,” I said, as Jane walked over to me.
“Nathan, just leave and hang up,” she whispered.
“How is she? Is she ok? Do we need to go over there?” Cal fired off the questions. “It’s Nate, and he found her.”
“Thank God, is she ok?” Aiden’s voice was a little more muffled.
Jane froze when she heard both of their voices. She tried to compose her face, but more tears fell.
“I can’t do this anymore. Just leave,” she said, covering her mouth in a sob.
“She’s breaking up with us,” I said, my voice coming out hoarse.
“What? Jane, baby, listen to me…”
“Jane, just hear us out, we can…”
“Stop!” Jane yelled, and we all went silent. “I can’t do this anymore. We were just temporary, and it wasn’t going to last anyway, right, Callum?”
“Babe, I said that because I was scared.” He exhaled loud enough for us to hear it. “Lucio scared me into thinking all these crazy thoughts. I didn’t know how else to express my feelings, so I blurted out the worst thing in my head.”
Jane stared at the phone like it had betrayed her.
“Baby, just come home and let’s talk about it face to face,” Aiden pleaded.
“Or we can come there. Give us a day to get there and we can all talk about everything.” Cal said.
I wanted to say he couldn’t come, but I didn’t want to worry her.
“You can’t go. What if he calls you?” Aiden’s voice was low but not low enough we couldn’t hear.
“I don’t care, she’s more important.” Cal tried to cover the phone to stop us from listening.
“Come on Jane, let’s just go back to Mountain View. Please.” I debated if getting on my knees and pleading with her was going to do anything to help the cause.
