“The reason she was in Dallas was because someone contested the will Henry left her and she found out he has a kid with his ex,” I said, regretting that I hadn’t told them when I found out.
“Shit…” someone muttered.
“Is that why she said she was broken?” Aiden’s voice was somber.
“Yeah, she looks so different now. She’s lost weight, she looks so sad, and I think this whole situation has made her lose faith in us, even though we did nothing.”
“Fuck, fuck, fuck.” Cal yelled, hitting something. “So, what you’re saying is it’s pointless to go after her?”
“I think she’s just in a really terrible place, Cal, and I don’t think there is anything we can do to change her mind.”
“Let’s go back home. Nate’s right, she’s dealing with a lot, and I don’t think there is anything we can do for her unless she lets us in,” Aiden said. “I think you should just come home.”
“No, I’m still going to Dallas,” Cal barked.
“Cal,” I murmured.
“No, don’t start, Nathan,” he said, his voice wavering on my name.
“I’m going to get my shit from the hotel, and I’ll head home.” I was about to hang up.
“Cal, let’s just go home. You can’t leave anyway.” Aiden tried to reason with.
“Fuck Lucio, fuck this whole situation. She belongs with us.” Cal’s voice was hoarse.
“Cal,” I said, hoping I was still on speaker phone. “Stay there, we don’t want you to get called into a fight, and you’re not there for something to happen to Kelsey.”
“Nate’s right, Cal,” Aiden said.
The phone sounded like there was movement. “Fuck!” Cal yelled, and a door slammed shut.
“Be safe coming back, man, and be prepared because I think he’s going to go on a rampage.”
“Alright, I’ll see you soon.” Hanging up the phone. I stayed in the hallway waiting for the elevator, wondering how shit could go so epically wrong. I leaned against the wall and slid down to my ass, resting my elbows on my knees, holding the side of my head. Everything I was holding back came crashing in, and tears welled in my eyes.
