She stared at me, breaking my heart at how different these two weeks had made her look. I didn’t care what I had to do, but I was going to try everything in my power to make sure this didn’t happen again. Jane didn’t deserve to go through life alone. She deserved an army at her side to rule the world with and make sure she knew she was amazing, cherished, and loved.

“We’ve missed you.” I stood up, walking slowly. “I came here because I love you, Jane.” I stood in front of her, hoping she saw the sincerity in my love.

More tears welled in her eyes, and I had to bite back the pain that I felt. I didn’t say it to make her cry. I was hoping for the opposite reaction. Maybe not a declaration of love, but maybe just saying she missed us, too.

“You need to leave,” Jane said, turning around and walking towards the window.

“What?” I asked, shocked.

“Cal is right, Nathan. This was only temporary.” Her voice was shaky and for just a moment, I didn’t think she believed that. “We had our fun, but it’s time for us to go our separate ways.”

“Jane, just come home with me and we can figure it out. The guys are dying to see you and make sure you’re ok.” I wanted to hold her, but knew it wasn’t the best idea.

“It won’t work out, Nathan.” Jane raised her voice. “You can’t have a relationship with a woman who is broken, and falling even more apart. I just can’t seem to get myself back together.”

“If you couldn’t tell, I enjoy broken people. My two best friends are broken, and if you haven’t noticed, I am too. Jane, everyone is broken in some shape or form.” I took a step towards her.

“No, Nathan, you guys have issues but my…” She turned around to look at me. My breath caught when I noticed she looked so sad. “Life has thrown me out with the trash. Now that I’m putting the pieces back together, I’m noticing that I don’t have all of them to feel whole again.”

“Darling, we can help you, we can…” I tried to grab at anything to make her see we were better together than apart.

“No, Nathan, you can’t just fix me like I’m some broken watch.” Her tears started flowing harder. “I’m not your sister either, you can’t just smother me to make sure I don’t do anything.”

“I never said you were my sister,” I said, angry that she had to bring up Natalie.
