Footsteps stomped into the living room, and Jane came in looking furious. Fuck. She was looking anywhere but at us, and I knew she had heard enough.

“Jane,” I said, stepping towards her. She quickly picked up her phone and walked away.

“Jane,” Callum barked at Jane, but she just kept walking away.

I walked faster to get to her before she got to the door. “Jane,” I pleaded with her.

“Don’t,” she snarled at me, looking vehemently. The anger in her voice was making me panic.

“Jane, just listen.” Callum came to the other side of Jane.

“Fuck you, guys,” she said, pulling her arm out of my grip, ripping the door open, and walking straight to her car. The panic was getting worse. I just had some very profound realizations about how I felt about her, and now it felt like she was slipping through my grasp. I followed her to her car, seeing her looking at Nathan, and saying something to him. Cal and I were just standing outside of the car, hoping he could talk some sense to her. She just needed to listen to us.

“Out. Don’t fucking drag this out, Nathan.” Tears were trailing down her face. “Just let me leave with some fucking dignity.”

Cal walked over to her side of the car, leaning down to see through her side of the window. “No. I’m not getting out of this car, and I want you to tell me,” Nathan said, as I walked over to his side.

“Jane, let’s talk,” I said, leaning down to see her through the open door. She was freaking out, and we needed to fix it.

“Why are you dragging this out!?” she screamed. “Nathan get the fuck out of this fucking car before I drive off with the door open.”

“Ok. I’m getting out, but we need to talk about whatever the fuck happened in there.” Nathan glared at Cal and me. “We all need to chill out and we can talk later, ok?”

Jane stared straight ahead, silently crying. I didn’t want to risk saying anything, feeling like we had already messed things up, and anything I said at this point would be ignored. Nathan was right. We needed to chill out before we talked again.

“Jane, we will call you.” Nathan got out of the car, but he bent down to look through the door at her. “I can come with you. I promise I won’t say a thing.”

“Go to the hospital, Nathan,” she said, backing the car up so he would get out of the way. I helped Nathan move away, shutting the door as she took off quickly.

How did shit go from bad to worse? Nathan pushed me, making me take a step back. “What the fuck happened?” he tried to yell, but his voice was just raspy. “She left for five minutes.”
