“He could also have a concussion. I think you need to be seen, Callum. You were just in a fight, and I don’t want us to overlook something.” I tried to get Callum to look at me so I could make sure he really knew how worried I was.
“Just take Nathan, I’m fine. If he finds out about me, it might be bad.” Callum wasn’t looking at me.
“Jane, can you take him?” Aiden asked me.
“Of course, I can. Am I going to run into trouble?” I asked, feeling a little nervous.
“I’ll go with you,” Evan offered.
I looked at him, and I knew I was being wary for no reason. I mean, he came over here to help them out, but I was being salty because of my friend.
“Can we trust him?” I didn’t care, and I didn’t want any more surprises.
Aiden and Callum looked surprised that I asked, but I didn’t know Evan, and just because he was with Darcy at one point didn’t mean shit. Aiden looked at Evan, and I think for the first time he looked at him and wondered if we could trust him.
Evan saw Aiden’s gaze and put his hands up. “I swear I came to help and nothing else. Honestly, you know I hate what I do.”
“He’s fine, Jane,” Nathan muttered, and I looked back down at him, relieved. He tried opening his eyes and only one opened. “I swear he’s on our side.”
Looking at Evan again, I nodded at him. I knew him and Nathan chatted on the regular, that’s how he got a lot of the heads-up from his fights. I knew he was trustworthy, but I was still worried that something even worse was going to happen. “Ok, let’s get you into the car. We need to get you to the hospital.”
The guys helped Nathan off the couch and to the door while Evan went outside to look around and make sure Lucio hadn’t sent anyone to monitor the guys. When the coast was clear, they got him into the car. Before I could get in, Aiden dragged me in for a kiss. I didn’t know if it was a goodbye kiss or a kiss that was promising me something more. He pulled away, staring into my eyes with an emotion I had never seen on his face. “Be careful,” he said.
I nodded my head. “You, too.”
“If anything seems suspicious, tell Evan or call us.” Callum came to my side, running his hand down my back. He pulled me into his arms and kissed me. Callum’s kiss tasted like a goodbye. It was raw, hungry, and he was mesmerizing me with the way his hand roamed over my body. A feeling of dread washed over me. Was he leaving? Was he really that worried about Lucio? I really hated that man.
