I wiped his face, cleaning blood from his split cheek. Nathan gave him water as he swished it in his mouth and spit in a bucket.

“More water. Your muscles will spasm if you don’t hydrate them enough,” I said. I activated an ice pack, put it on the side of his face for some relief.

“Fuck, that feels good.” His voice was deep and raspy.

“His left side is weak,” Nathan said, looking at the opponent. “Wait till he swings back for a powerful punch, and you can land a hard cross punch that might knock him out.”

Dev narrowed his eyes at Nathan.

“He’s not trying to fuck you over,” I said, continuing to work on him. “Take his advice, he trains with someone who is fighting in the next fight.”

“Cal?” He looked shocked.

“Yeah, now go get him, tiger.” I stood up, leaving, as the bell rang. It didn’t look like he was going to take Nathan’s advice, and then it happened quicker than I expected. He saw his opening and hit him so hard he fell lifeless to the floor. The crowd erupted, going wild.

“Fuck,” Nathan said, looking surprised.

Dev looked down shocked at his opponent, like he couldn’t believe he had knocked him out. He walked out of the ring without bothering with theatrics. I followed him, wanting to make sure he didn’t need any stitches or any other medical attention. Women tried to grab him, but he shrugged them off. He walked into a room that looked a little bigger than a closet. There wasn’t enough room for all of us and I didn’t feel comfortable being in the hallway.

“I’d like to check you out before you leave. Make sure you don’t need any stitches or have a concussion.” I tapped his shoulder.

He turned around so quickly, like he was about to punch me. Nathan got in between us, holding out his hands like he was ready to smack him.

“Whoa, man, chill out,” Nathan snapped.

“What the fuck are you doing here?” He looked at us suspiciously again.

“I just want to make sure you’re ok, and that split on your cheek doesn’t need any stitches. It will be easier if we go to the locker room with Callum. The space is big enough for all of us,” I held up my hands so he didn’t think I was threatening, all one hundred and forty pounds of me.

“She’s just trying to help you.” Nathan looked suspicious of him now.

He looked back and forth between us. “Fine,” he spit out.

He grabbed his stuff, following us to our locker room. I opened the door, a little hesitant about what might happen.

“Jane, I told you…” Callum’s voice trailed as he saw Dev behind me.
