Fugate frowned. He had a thick brow that creased, nearly overshadowing his eyes. When? Why?
Please just answer the questions.
I dont know where I was those first two days, but on Thursday night I was at Peteys with some guys from the job site. Its play-offs. He said it as if everyone should have known that.
Right. Basketball. Peteys must be a sports bar.
Anyone who can verify that? Danielle asked, her pen poised over her notebook.
Sure. Nate Sepulveda, Harlan Loy, Vito Olmstead, Robbie Seeley. He lifted up a finger for each name he listed.
Danielle jotted them down and then shut her book. She tapped a few items into her phone as well.
Thats it? Fugate asked, jaw dropped a bit. The man was a total mouth breather. You chased me down and hauled me in here to check on my social calendar?
Danielle stayed very still. Not exactly. Tell us about your relationship with Lexa Windham.
My what with who? Fugates eyes bugged a little.
Your relationship with Lexa Windham. Danielle spoke each work slowly, carefully enunciating.
Fugate frowned. I aint dim. You dont have to talk to me like that.
Great. Any chance you could answer the question? Danielle leaned back, taking a more relaxed pose.
I dont even know who that is. No way I have any kind of thing going with a chick named Lexa. Fugate shook his head.
Morgan felt the steam rising in his head. He leaned forward, getting his face right into Fugates. She wasnt some chick. She was a person. A young woman who already had accomplished more than what youll probably do in your whole sorry excuse for a life.
Danielle tugged him back and gave him a warning look. Dr. Windham treated you at Georgetown University Hospital in March.
Realization dawned on Fugates face. He turned to Morgan. I knew you looked familiar! You passed me off to the chick doctor who wouldnt do anything for my back.
Because you dont have a back problem, Fugate, Morgan shot back. You have an Oxy problem.
Fugate ignored Morgan and turned to Danielle. So whats the deal with this Lexa chick. Why do you want to know about her?
Do you watch the news, Mr. Fugate? Danielle asked.
He shook his head. Not if I can help it.
Lexa Windham was murdered on April 24th. The nurse who helped her treat you Brianna Olson was murdered on April 25th. Danielle said the words calmly, but they made Morgans blood boil. All that potential, gone, because of an idiot like Fugate.
All the blood drained from Fugates face. And you think I had something to do with that? No. No. No. No. Absolutely not.
Danielle steepled her hand in front of herself. You were pretty angry when you left the Emergency Department that night. According to witnesses, you threatened Dr. Windham and pretty much everyone else you saw.
