He sat back and sighed. So what do I do now? Im not sure theres anything more in these files to read over. When hed arrived, he hadnt been sure if he should even be here. Now he didnt want to leave. There was something there, something more that he wasnt seeing. It felt just out of reach.
You go home. Kick back. Have a glass of that incredibly stinky Scotch you were drinking the other night. Danielle shut the folder in front of her as well. Ill get in touch as soon as we have any more information to work with.
Not a fan of peat I take it. Morgan got up and put on his jacket, but his brain was going a million miles a minute. He got it. He really did. She had to do things by the book.
Not that much peat! She stood. I appreciate all the work today. Were making progress. I can feel it.
He could too. Thats part of what was so frustrating about her not letting him access those patient files.
Did he have to do things by the book? He wasnt so sure about that. Plus, whatever he found in those records wouldnt necessarily be evidence. It would send them in a direction to find evidence. Danielle could get as many warrants as she wanted for that.
Besides, what Danielle didnt know wouldnt hurt her.
CHAPTER ELEVEN
The rain had finally started. It had been threatening all day. Good timing as far as he was concerned. The water beading up on the car windows would give him extra cover. Plus, people didnt look around in the rain. They scurried from one place to another as if a little water was going to melt them.
Bunch of snowflakes.
Sure enough. Here she came. Umbrella angled to block out the wind. Her keys must have already been in her hand because he heard the double beep and the cars lights flashed as she unlocked it. She ducked inside, pulling the umbrella after her like a turtle retreating into its shell. If he hadnt already established that the car was hers, he might not have been sure it was her.
But he had. Hed done his homework. Hed combed through all the records and he knew all their names. From there, it had been relatively easy to find everything else he needed to know.
People were so stupid. Putting all their personal information out there for everyone to see on social media. Or if they didnt, their friends did and it was still ridiculously easy to figure it all out. This ones cohort at nursing school had posted almost every minute of their graduation two years before. Then it was a matter of following the trail through the Internet. He hadnt even had to leave his apartment to find out where she lived, who she lived with, what she drove, even what shift she was on.
