Im not sure, but Im concerned. I dont like that his whereabouts are unknown. She chewed her lower lip. We need to find him.

Do you think hes our guy? Morgan asked.

She blew out a breath. I dont think hes not our guy. Not yet. I dont like the idea that he might be out right now stalking his next victim.

Morgan walked over to the desk and ran a finger across one of the popsicle sticks. Why would a grown man have popsicle sticks and school glue out on his desk? The only reason he could think of was that he had those things for his daughter. Maybe for some kind of school project or an arts and crafts afternoon. Nothing had been done with them yet, though. There were no little girl shoes or clothes that he could see. No toys or books. The little girl hadnt been here yet.

But there had been a photo and a flyer. He looked up at the bulletin board. Sycamore Lane Elementary. The assembly was today. Morgan glanced at his watch. It would be starting soon. He unpinned the flyer from the board.

I think we should go to Huttons daughters school. Morgan walked back to the door, holding the flyer.

Danielle frowned at him. Why?

Because I think thats where he might be.

Same question. Why?

Just a feeling. Hes got this little craft project all set up, but it doesnt look like his daughter has spent any time here. Maybe its a bit of wishful thinking. A guy who was wishing he could spend time with his daughter might watch her from afar, if he couldnt actually spend time with her. Theres some kind of special assembly today. Lots of parents around. He might be able to blend into the crowd or at least think that he could. In his head, he felt the pieces clicking into place.

Youre basing all that on a stack of popsicle sticks and a bottle of school glue? Danielle made a face.

That and whats not here, too. He looked up at the ceiling, trying to gather his thoughts. Sometimes when youre making a diagnosis, whats not there is just as important as what is there. What symptoms doesnt the patient have? What tests havent been run? His daughters not here. I dont think shes ever been here. But there are craft supplies and information about something at her school.

Danielle fisted her hands on her hips and sighed. Well, its not like I have any better ideas. Lets go.

CHAPTER FOURTEEN

Sycamore Lane Elementary was only a mile and a half from Huttons apartment. They drove past it and pulled into a parking place about a block away.

Morgan unzipped his jacket as they walked down the sidewalk toward the school just as Danielle pulled on her suit jacket. He gave her a quizzical look.
