She pulled out of her parking space. He gave her a second or two and then did the same. It was shift change time at Georgetown University Hospital so there were dozens of cars leaving all at once. Even if it hadnt been raining, he doubted she would notice him. He was one gray sedan in a line of gray sedans. In minutes, he was behind her on the road heading toward her home.

Stupid bitch. He was going to enjoy watching her face as she recognized him, as she connected him to what shed done to his family in the name of medicine, as she realized that she was going to have to pay for what she did.

And then hed slit her throat.

CHAPTER TWELVE

Morgan drove past the line of cars leaving the Georgetown University Hospital parking lot. How many gray sedans were there in this town? Hed taken the Metro home and picked up his car after he left Danielle at FBI Headquarters and then driven here to the hospital.

Hed battled with himself the whole way about what his next step was. He understood Danielles concerns.

He just didnt think they outweighed his.

It was no longer only about revenge. He definitely wanted to see whoever had killed Lexa punished to the full extent of the law. He also didnt want anyone else to get hurt. He took his Hippocratic Oath seriously. First, do no harm. Standing by, knowing that someone might be targeting the staff at his hospital was definitely allowing harm to happen. How was he supposed to live with himself if someone else got hurt?

He parked his Altima and looped his hospital ID around his neck. Under the cover of his umbrella, he ducked into the hospital, then shook the rain off. He made his way up to his office, nodding occasionally at people he knew, but not stopping to talk. The less he had to say about why he was spending the first day of his leave of absence here at the hospital, the better.

That he was right about his instincts became abundantly clear when he got to his office.

Dr. Stark? Reem Ahmed, the Internal Medicine administrative assistant, half rose from behind his desk as Morgan walked by. I . . . we . . . I mean, I didnt expect you in today.

The young mans dark cheeks turned a bit red.

Morgan raised a hand. I didnt expect to be in myself, but I realized I needed to do a little bit of follow up on Reta Shuman. Shuman had been the sepsis case that Morgan had almost missed. He actually did want to make sure she was continuing to improve, but also figured shed be a great case to use as cover.

Ahmed nodded. Of course. He sat back down.
