- ABOUT THE AUTHOR
JD: At the risk of sounding like a creep, you look fucking gorgeous, and I can’t even see your face.
RB: Thank you so much. I’m nervous.
RB: I haven’t been on a date in years, so I’m hoping it goes well. Ugh.
JD: I think you’re a brilliant conversationalist.
JD: I look forward to hearing from you.
RB: Therein lies the problem.
RB: Sometimes it’s as if I’m two different people with two different personas being yanked back and forth like a game of tug-of-war.
RB: There’s the virtual side of me, which you’ve seen, that can come up with witty answers and make people laugh.
RB: In real life, I’m fairly quiet, which is often construed as weakness.
RB: Trust me, if we met before we started messaging, you wouldn’t bat an eye at me.
RB: In fact, there’s no way you would willingly come up to me in a bar even if I was standing right next to you.
JD: Hey, don’t say that. You’re making an assumption.
JD: So what if you’re quiet? I can be loud enough for the two of us.
RB: Thank you. That means a lot.
JD: I hope you have a good time tonight.
JD: If something goes wrong, text me and I’ll give you an escape plan.
RB: I appreciate it :)
JD: Possible escape scenarios: My goldfish died. My house plants need watering. I got food poisoning from eating too many Zebra Cakes.
RB: Hey! Don’t hate on my Zebra Cakes! Also, I could talk about house plants for hours, so I need to shut this conversation down so I can walk out the door.
RB: Talk to you later!
JD: See ya later, VRG! Good luck!

“Why are you scowling?”
I nearly jump out of my skin, looking up from my phone to find Neil staring at me.
Shit.
I haven’t listened to him in minutes, too busy studying the photo RB sent to remember what he last said. The outfit she asked my opinion on is undeniably sexy, a dark green velvet top and a pair of jeans that sit low on her hips. There’s a small sliver of skin showing between the hems of the clothing, and I’m… distracted.
My eyebrows pinch together as I zoom in on the picture. The image seems almost familiar in a way, like I’ve seen this person somewhere before. I know the sentiment is impossible, because I would definitely remember this outfit. It’s my favorite color. It’s hard to put my finger on it, but a sense of attachment pricks my memory the longer I stare.
