- ABOUT THE AUTHOR
RB: We didn’t have a lot of money when I was a kid, so frivolous spending was minimal.
RB: But for my 8th birthday, my mom took me to Toys ’R Us and let me pick out any three toys I wanted.
RB: To a lot of people, three toys sounds like nothing. To me, it was the best day of my life.
JD: What a great memory. What three did you pick? Do you remember?
RB: I do! A new Barbie (they used to be my favorite toys). A tamagotchi (which died after three days). And a Sky Dancer doll (which almost took my eye out).
RB: They’re still in a box somewhere. I can’t bear to part with them.
JD: I would hope not. They’re special to you.
JD: That’s so cool.
RB: Sorry. This got real deep real fast.
JD: Don’t apologize.
JD: I like learning things about you.

September 23rd
JD: Hey, RB. How’s your day?
RB: Not bad! I’m running late, so it could be better!
JD: Anything exciting happening tonight? Another event?
RB: Actually, this one isn’t business.
RB: I have a date.
JD: Way better than business stuff. Fun!
RB: My friend set me up with him.
RB: He sounds nice!
RB: Wait. Is it weird I’m sharing this with you?
JD: Not at all. We’re friends, right? Online friends count for something, I hope.
JD: Oh my God. Do you remember SmarterChild on AOL instant message?
RB: Yes! The original Siri!
RB: I tried to get him? Her? Them? It? To say so many inappropriate things. It never worked.
JD: RB. You scandalous woman. Trying to seduce a computer.
RB: Stop!!
JD: Just messing with you!
JD: For the record, I tried to do that, too. You aren’t alone.
RB: I knew I wasn’t the only weirdo!
JD: Where are you all going?
RB: Some restaurant in the city. Mexican, I think.
RB: Tacos are my favorite!
JD: The most important question is: hard or soft tacos?
RB: Hard. 100%.
JD: You’re speaking my language.
RB: Can I ask you a favor? It’s kind of awkward.
JD: I live for awkward. What’s up?
RB: This is going to sound so strange. Can I send you a photo (not of my face, of course) and, as a guy, you can be honest about my outfit?
RB: My friend says it looks great. She’s my forever hype-women, though, and required to compliment me.
RB: I want to make sure I look okay.
JD: Yeah, of course. As long as you’re comfortable with that.
RB: I am. Hang on, give me a second.
RB: *Attachment: 1 Image*
RB: Thoughts?
JD: I love the color. The green looks great.
RB: Are you sure? You don’t have to lie to me! I won’t be upset!
