  89. ABOUT THE AUTHOR

“Is that what you really want, honey? Because I can be that guy for you.”

“Yes, I want you to be that guy. I don’t want you to be sweet. I want you to be rough. Powerful. Show me… Show me that…”

“Finish that sentence,” he growls, closing the remaining distance between us. My shoulders hit the bathroom door and I hiss at the contact.

“Show me I’m yours,” I blurt out. My heart races at the lofty implication, wondering how Henry will respond.

He licks his lips greedily and expectantly. “I don’t own you, Emma. No one owns you, you amazingly independent woman. But I will make sure it’s my name on your lips when you come, again and again. I’ll make sure to remind you that only I can make you see the fucking stars. Because I’m yours, too.”

His mouth lands on mine, finally devouring my lips, and I moan at his ferocity. His tenacity. His promise. Henry’s a man of his word, and I already know he’s going to be my demise. My downfall. Ruining me from the inside out before becoming my salvation, a vicious cycle I can’t wait to stumble into.

“Yes,” I repeat, groaning as my arms fall around his shoulders like we’ve been doing this for years, a practiced dance between two lovers and the closest of friends. My nails dig into his back, tracing down his spine as his muscles flex along my journey. I want to mark him so any other woman who might want to experience him after me knows I’ve been there first and staked my claim. The first one to ever keep him for more than 24 hours. “Please.”

“I’ve been waiting for this moment since our first email,” he whispers, lips dipping to kiss the crook of my neck. I arch off the door and further into his embrace. “I’m going to possess you like you’ve possessed my goddamn brain and every waking thought, week after agonizing week.”

“Then take me, Henry.”

THIRTY-FIVE

EMMA

Henry ambles away, creating unwanted distance. The moonlight trickling through the curtains bounces off his chiseled body with each step, making him look like a god-like hero sent to walk among mortals.

“I have one rule.”

“What’s that?”

“I don’t come until you do.”

I snort. “Oh yeah?”

He cocks his head to the side and crosses his arms. “Is that funny?”

“I think it’s a really good line.”

“Clearly I’m not doing a good enough job if you think I’m lying. I’m going to get you there slowly. Gradually. Haltingly. You know why?”

“Why?”

“Because I want to savor every moan, every sigh, every whimper that comes out of your beautiful mouth. For me. Because of me. Does that sound like a line?”
