- ABOUT THE AUTHOR
JD: Tell me something good.
JD: I’m having a miserable day.
RB: Hello to you too, Mr. Sunshine!
RB: Why the bad day?
JD: Work is running me into the ground. I’m up for a promotion, and I’m doing my best to showcase my talents without coming across as arrogant.
JD: It’s hard to stay focused. The other person who’s going for the position is equally deserving.
JD: No. They’re more deserving. 100%.
JD: I have an interview this week with a couple of people, and I’m second-guessing everything about myself. My work ethic. My career path in general. It’s draining.
RB: Congratulations on the promotion! That’s awesome.
RB: It sounds like a tough position to be in. I’m sorry you’re going through all those emotions (which are all valid, by the way).
RB: You should try to devote your attention to smaller tasks, instead of the big, scary end task.
RB: Break up your week, interviews, and workload into tiny chunks. Cross one off when you complete it, that way you can see how much you’re accomplishing and all the good you’ve done.
JD: Whoa.
JD: I really like that idea.
JD: One of my buddies suggested something similar. Maybe I’ll make that a priority this week.
JD: Anyway. Enough talking about me. You’re up. Something good. Go.
RB: My birthday is on Saturday!
JD: You’re just now telling me this?! Don’t you think I should know when your birthday is, VRG?
RB: Good point. Well, surprise! It’s Saturday!
JD: Happy early birthday! Do you have any fun plans?
RB: My best friend and I are getting dinner, and then…
JD: I’m waiting on the edge of my seat with those dot dot dots.
RB: You mean the ellipsis?
JD: Okay, smarty-pants.
RB: We’re going bowling!
JD: I knew you were a resident of the senior citizens’ home, scooting around in a wheelchair, snacking on Zebra Cakes, and bowling on the weekend.
JD: My dream girl.
RB: Do you have a thing for older women? And by older, I mean four decades older?
JD: Guilty.
RB: You don’t think I’m lame and boring? I know you said you enjoy bowling, but I feel like it’s different when it’s the subject of my 32nd birthday and not a drunken expedition.
JD: Lame? I’m incredibly jealous.
RB: I’m pretty abysmal, so it’s going to be hilarious. How old are you? When’s your birthday?
JD: I’m 31. My birthday is in the summer. July 17th.
RB: I’m older than you by a couple of months!
RB: Do you have a favorite birthday memory?
JD: Probably when I did a laser tag party for my 16th. I finally felt like I was cool since my parents didn’t have to be there for supervision.
JD: What about you?
