“No, it’s not too much to ask for.” I exhaled slowly. “We’ve never had this happen to us before. We are so used to girls who we don’t catch feelings for and then we finally found someone we all liked. The thing with Lucio spooked us, and the first instinct was to push you away.”

Jane kept her face neutral as I spoke. “After we slept with you and Cal pushed you away, I was furious. We fought outside until Aiden got home and had to separate us.” Her eyebrows raised up. “I only got a few good shots before he hit me back. We didn’t talk to each other until he got his text from Lucio and at that point you hadn’t responded. I figured since you hadn’t responded, that was it.”

Jane sat up. “I appreciate everything you’ve done for me, but I need to be included if something like that happens again. I won’t do this with you guys if you don’t include me.”

Lifting her up, I adjusted to sit more upright in a more comfortable position. “I won’t shut you out again, Jane.” Cupping her face, I continued. “I will fight to keep you in our decisions, and I’ll make sure you don’t feel blindsided like that.” Pushing her hair back, I kissed her softly, showing her I didn’t want to mess up again.

She pulled away. “Just be honest with me, please, even if you think it will hurt me or I might not like it.” She ran her hand through my hair.

“I will,” I said, bringing her in for another kiss. Leaning back, I savored the languid strokes of her tongue, making me get excited again. I pulled back suddenly.

“I know I should have asked about this first, but I get so wrapped up with you. The guys and I get tested regularly. Are you on birth control?” Felling like an idiot, for not thinking about this the first time we had sex.

“We’ve been irresponsible. I haven’t been with anyone since Henry, and I have an IUD, but after I lost the baby...” She paused, looking away. “They don’t know if I can get pregnant again, too much scar tissue.” Her voice cracked on the last word as she looked at me, and she turned away quickly.

“I’m so sorry, darling,” I said, turning her to face me and wiping a stray tear that escaped.

“It’s ok, I mean, who knows if that’s in the cards for me,” she whispered, like it was too much to say out loud.
