As we got ready to land, the mountains came into view and took my breath away again. Tension left my shoulders, feeling like I was exactly where I needed to be. We pulled up to the gate, and I stayed in my seat as everyone else stood up, waiting to get off the plane. I grabbed my bag from baggage claim and headed to the rental car counter.

The drive up to Mountain View in October was spectacular. The leaves were changing, giving everything the warm hues of fall. I could still see the appeal of why Henry and I wanted to live here, even though I was worried that being back here would remind me of him. Surprisingly, all the memories of the guys made Henry almost nonexistent. I rented the same condo I did when I first got here, but decided I wanted to look at the house one more time before I officially sold it tomorrow. It was only five-thirty, but the sun was almost setting, making it perfect for the last view of the house. The house came into view as I turned on the dirt road and disappointment came crashing down when I didn’t see a work truck in front.

I don’t know why I thought they might be here, but some part of me hoped for an easy run-in with them. Also, it would have been kismet to see them like I did on my first day here.

I got out of the car, admiring the craftsmanship the guys put into this home. It was a home I thought I would have forever, but Henry tainted it with his dishonesty. A lie made physical that I couldn’t live with or be reminded of.

I walked through the now empty house except for a few pieces of furniture that the new owners wanted to keep. Walking into the bedroom, they set it up almost exactly how I had left it, making me blush at the memories I had of the guys in here. One regret I might have had was selling the memories I made with the guys here. Hopefully, what I had planned for tomorrow would work out, and regret would be a thing of the past. Leaving the room, I walked into the hallway hearing the front door open. It was probably Cassandra, the realtor, wanting to look at the house one more time.

Heavy footsteps made me pause at the kitchen when I noticed Cal. He was looking down with a scowl on his face, looking exactly like he did when we first met. He stopped quickly, looking up at me with that hard expression. All the air vanished from the room, making it hard to breathe. The moment froze, for just a second, before another set of footsteps rounded the corner, halting.
