“Thank you, Cal.” He smiled at me and yelled at the guys in Spanish in what I can assume was ‘let’s get the fuck out of here’. I picked up my tools and said thanks to the rest of the guys before I packed up the truck and went home. It was weird being alone after the guys and I have spent a few years together. We didn’t do everything together but coming home to someone was nice. Coming home to Jane was even better. It was something I didn’t even know I needed. But I craved it, and hoped I hadn’t messed it up. She made the house a home and anywhere she went, I would follow.
I felt my phone vibrate, excitement coursed through me, as I quickly opened my phone.
Fight tonight be here by 10 for a fight at 11.
I gripped my phone a little too hard. I was going from a fight once a month to two or three a month. The last two kicked my ass, and I was feeling like I couldn’t get my shit together before I had another fight. I called Evan to see who I was fighting, so I could prepare myself mentally. It was apparently a new dude on the scene, and he had never seen him fight, so it was up in the air if I would get my ass kicked. I ate, grabbed my bag, and the med kit that Aiden usually kept in the laundry room. I arrived at the club very early, hoping to get the bigger locker room again so I could warm up to loosen up as much as possible.
Evan met me at the front of the club, taking me to a room that wasn’t as big as my usual, but enough so I could get through my warm-up.
“I don’t think it’s safe for you to go out alone, so I have someone here to help you out. I think you guys might get along.” Evan opened the door to the room and in walked Dev.
“Before you get all bent out of shape, he’s like us, forced into this situation, and I promise we can trust him.”
We stared at each other. “Is it true you’re his son?” I asked, because I’m really fucking nosy. I wanted to know how the fuck he could trust him, especially since he walked Kelsey to her car.
“If I had my choice, I would have told my mom to have me as far away from that asshole as possible.” His voice was raspy. “I got into this, so he stays away from my mom, and my little sister.”
