“I’ll be here, just in case. I can keep an eye out here, if I am wrong, and she’s still here in Mountain View,” I said, running a hand through my hair. “I also want to visit Darcy at the coffee shop and see if she has any information on her if you guys don’t find her in Dallas.”
“Are we jumping the gun?” he asked, unsure.
“I don’t know, honestly. I’m about eighty-percent sure she is there. She hated going back to the condo while I was there, and I know she would leave as quickly as possible.”
“Ok, maybe we should just wait a day or two until we talk to Darcy.” Aiden was sounding more hesitant.
“No, I think you guys need to go to cross off the possibility that she might be there. Maybe you can see if Madie has seen her, and if she will tell us where she is at.” I was going to keep convincing him he needed to go because I was positive she was in Dallas. We hadn’t seen her at all, and it looked like she hadn’t been home for days.
“Fuck, I’m going for just a few days, and if anything goes wrong, I can be on a plane and come back quickly.” Aiden nodded like he was reassuring himself.
“Good, I’ll make sure the crew has stuff to do, and if that wood comes in, I’ll start the deck.” I clapped his back and left his room.
“Thanks Cal, I know it will be hard to stay here, but I know it’s for the best,” he said, as I left. I picked up the food from the living room and gave Tango a piece of ham that was left over.
“Ok, did he find a flight?” Nathan sat on a stool by the island, looking a lot better. He had showered, shaved, and looked like he had some color on his face.
“Yeah, I think it leaves in a few hours.” I cleaned the rest of the dishes.
“Are you packed?” he asked.
I didn’t answer right away, knowing it was going to be awkward. “I’m not going,” I finally said.
“Cal, look…”
“I can’t go. I don’t know if I’ll get called into a fight, and I don’t want to risk it,” I said, wiping down the counter. “If he calls when I’m not here, who knows what he will do, and I won’t compromise you guys anymore.”
“It wasn’t your fault,” he said quietly.
I shrugged. “It wasn’t me who kicked your ass, but it might as well have been me.”
“Cal,” Nathan said my name.
